ABOUT US
Empowering Communities Through Learning & Hope
Empower Kakuma Learning Hub is a refugee-led Community-Based Organization dedicated to transforming lives through education, skills training, and community development in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Our Vision
A Kakuma where everyone can learn, grow, and lead in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Our Mission
To provide accessible education, digital skills, arts programs, and leadership opportunities for Kakuma’s displaced and host communities.
OUR STORY
Why We Started
Empower Kakuma Learning Hub was founded in January 2025 in response to the pressing challenges facing youth in Kakuma Refugee Camp. With high rates of youth unemployment, limited access to practical education, and a lack of sustainable livelihood opportunities after school, many young people were left without pathways to a better future.
Our founder, Shukri Mohamed Ibrahim, a Somali refugee herself, recognized that the community held the solutions to its own challenges. What was needed was a platform to bring people together, share knowledge, and create opportunities for growth.
Today, EK Learning Hub runs five core programs that address education, peacebuilding, digital skills, women’s economic empowerment, and environmental action. We remain committed to our founding principles: community-led solutions, inclusive education, and youth empowerment.
